LaVision presents optical indication applications using the new EngineMaster inspex systems and well-proven Internal Combustion Optical Sensor (ICOS) at the JSAE/SAE Powertrains, Fuel and Lubricants International Meeting 2015 in Kyoto (Japan) from September 1st to 4th.

EngineMaster inspex provides a simple and effective means of looking directly inside an engine to investigation in-cylinder phenomena. Information about spray geometry, wall wetting effects and soot formation is revealed immediately.

ICOS can measure highly time-resolved Lambda value information. This information can be used for example to compare injection strategies or mixture formation at different engine conditions. A talk from the KIT (Karlsruhe Institute of Technology) shows the importance of such highly time resolved information in an investigation of transient engine operation during a tip-in. Effects like high HC-emissions can be explained. Such knowledge is crucial to finding strategies to reduce emissions.
